Nelsons Ledge

Located in the south part of Elbow Reef is one of Key Largo's drift scuba diving sites, Nelsons Ledge.

Currents are usually strong enough to enable an enjoyable drift dive along this mini wall which drops from 17m to 25m (55feet to 80feet).

The wall and area is covered with towering staghorn coral, large barrel sponges and tube sponges, all stunning to look at whilst drifting by. Nelsons Ledge is an ideal reef for feeders such as spotted eagle rays, parrotfish, butterfly fish and turtles

What makes scuba diving sites like this all the more special is spotting the larger beasts such as tarpon who feed well at this site.

I love drift dives.

Moving at a leisurely pace taking in the sights, and along this wall they were breathtaking.

The rays move with such elegance. Definitely one of my favorite dive sites

One of the attractions of Florida Key scuba diving is that you will be able to take underwater photographs or underwater videos such as the one below. With excellent light and clear waters you will be able to get some excellent shots.

This video was at Elbow Reef and it gives you an idea of what to expect diving off the Florida coast (Press the button second right on the bottom of the video player to see it in full screen)...
