French Reef

If you have the opportunity to go liveaboard scuba diving in Key Lago then this is a must dive.

French Reef is located northeast of Molasses Reef. Part of the Sanctuary Preservation area the site is adorned with rubble, caves and arches.

A truly stunning reef with tunnels, caves and ledges, all waiting to be explored, make sure you bring a dive-light to get the most from the various caves and tunnels.

Caves such as The Hourglass Cave and the Christmas Tree Cave give you an opportunity to explore looking for hidden treasures of marine life.

In Christmas Tree Cave you will be able to say hello to the moray eels and grouper that abound here.

White Sand Bottom Cave is located in the center of the reef and is by far the biggest cave in the area

The beauty of liveaboard scuba diving is that you will have time to explore the whole area which has cliffs garnished with corals and crevices and opportunities abound for the keen photographer to get close ups shots.

I had a close encounter with a nurse shark whilst exploring these caves.

The area is much larger than I thought and would take more than one dive to fully appreciate the richness of this reef.

Whilst there are gorgeous fish and corals without doubt the real star attraction is the structures throughout the reef.

Dazzling!

Scuba Videos

One of the attractions of Florida Key scuba diving is that you will be able to take underwater photographs or underwater videos such as the one below. With excellent light and clear waters you will be able to get some excellent shots.

This video was taken at French Reef and it gives you an idea of what to expect diving off the Florida coast (Press the button second right on the bottom of the video player to see it in full screen)...
