Key West Attractions

When you're ready for a break from scuba diving at some of the world's greatest reefs you can take it easy and spend the day visiting one of the Key West attractions such as Key West Shipwreck Treasures Museum or Ernest Hemingway House and Museum for a little piece of culture.

Perhaps like me you're a bit of a nature lover and enjoy what nature has to offer such as Key West Aquarium or Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden.

Whatever your taste there is plenty to see and do in and around Key West and here is a brief outline of some of the museums and other attractions that key West has to offer.

Key West Florida Attractions

Audubon House

A house built in the 1840's by Captain John H Geiger who amassed his fortune as a master wrecker salvaging the ships that were wrecked on the local reefs. This mid 19th century house is a great example of American Classic Revival architecture and is home to some great fine art.

Curry Mansion

Curry Mansion Inn is one of those places that allows you to dwell in the luxury of a bygone era. The classic rooms are furnished wicker and antiques and it's easy to relax and dream of an era gone by.

Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum

Nobel prizewinner Hemmingway wrote most of his best and well known novels whilst living at this mansion which is now a registered landmark. One of the best ways to visit this piece of American history is with a guided tour.

Key West Attractions

During the President Truman's administration this house was used as The White House and is now one of Florida's most famous historic treasures. Here is an opportunity to step back into the post war years of the 1940's and see the decorations and furniture as used by Truman. This is a piece of history not to be missed.

For those people having a great interest in poetry and literature this historic Porter family home plays host to literary history, poetry festivals, lectures and more. You can have the guided tour which will give you the opportunity to see and hear about the museum collection.

Key West Shipwreck Treasures Museum

Did you know that Key West was once the richest city in the United States? Visit this Key West attraction and take a trip back in time to the 1850's when Key West made its fortune wrecking ships. The story is well told with live actors taking you on a trip back in time and you will see some of the treasures uncovered.

Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Society & Museum

If you want some education as to the maritime past of Key West then this museum is worth a visit. With exhibits displaying the remains of ships such as the English merchant slaver Henrietta Marie you have the opportunity to immerse yourself in key West's maritime past.

Pirate Soul Museum

Enjoy this interactive journey going back 300 years and feast your eyes on the only authentic pirate chest in the world! You can enjoy a guided tour and sip a little grog for free.

Ripleys Believe It or Not Museum

What an unusual place! Take a look at the exhibit of the white buffalo - the odds on the birth of a white buffalo is 10 million to 1. There are over 500 exhibits in 13 themed galleries. Surely something to interest everyone.

Key West Aquarium

An opportunity to see the marine life indigenous to the Florida Keys whilst remaining dry. A fantastic variety of fish on display and the opportunity to feed the sharks on a guided tour of this aquarium which has been around since 1934!

Key West Attractions Key West Nature and Butterfly Conservatory
