Little Conch Reef

If you go to Islamorada, dive this scuba diving site located six miles east of Windley Key and just south of Conch Reef.

Islamorada dive centers like this dive site as it is a great place for shallower diving and novice divers.

Little Conch Reef is on a spread of white sand half mile across. The reef is a lot quieter than Conch Reef just to the north and is extensively used by fishermen looking for lobster that are harvested throughout the season.

Islamorada dive centers also use this site because some of the sights to be seen are nurse sharks, moray eels, spiny lobster and corals such as Elkhorn and Barrel corals, and not forgetting the tube sponges and seafans that adorn the area.

An excellent second dive in this area is El Infante, the Spanish galleon wreck that lies just 75m southwest of Little Conch Reef.

ISLAMORADA

Terence's Log

We went with one of the Islamorada dive centers to this excellent sheltered dive site.

The water was crystal clear on this early morning dive and the nurse sharks here posed for our photo shots and I got some very good close up photos of tube sponges.

I was already looking forward to the afternoon dive to the Spanish galleon wreck El Infante - you never know there might be treasure that every other diver has missed over the years!

Scuba Diving Videos

Scuba diving videos often capture the beauty of sharks as they swim through the water in their unique style.

Here is the opportunity to watch one of my favorite clips taken at Little Conch Reef of a beautiful shark -a nurse shark - this is some excellent video showing you what to expect at this dive site (press the button second right on the bottom of the video player to see it in full screen)...
