Sheridan Wreck
Tampa Bay Dive Sites
The tug Sheridan can be found on Pinellas #2 Reef which is one of the reefs developed as part of the Pinellas County Artificial Reef program.
Tampa Bay – Reef Diving
The Sheridan was a 180 foot long tug that was sunk not too far from another well known wreck the USCG cutter Blackthorn. Many consider this old tug to be one of the best dives in West Central Florida and it’s easy to see why.
It is not unusual to find the visibility around this tug to be better than when diving the Blackhorn and the marine life around this old tug is amazing.
The picture above shows how the tug is fully covered in growth and attracts all kinds of marine life.
When you dive this tug expect to see schools of tomtates and baitfish, great barracuda, red snapper, doctorfish, blue angelfish, high hats, and goliath grouper to name just a few.
You will also see plenty of anemone, arrow crab, shrimps and lobster.
The Pinellas County Artificial Reef program has deliberately used different materials and structures at each of the reefs to provide different profiles on these reefs and encourage all forms of marine life to inhabit the various structures.
Tampa Bay Scuba Videos
One of the attractions of Tampa Bay scuba diving is that you will be able to take underwater photographs or underwater videos such as the one below. The Gulf of Mexico waters are warm and clear so you will be able to get some good shots.

When scuba diving any of the reefs around Tampa Bay care has to be taken as these reefs were designed and constructed for scuba diving and for Tampa Bay fishing which is very popular so you will see lots of fishing boats around these dive sites.
This is one of Tampa Bay’s must do dives and you will be surrounded by tomtates and baitfish during your dive. The marine life and variety here is incredible.
