Tampa Bay – Reef Diving
One of the outstanding features of the Dunedin Reef is the concrete Pyramids which add height and structure to this reef and attract pelagic fish.
When the artificial reef program was planned one of the key features was to use different structures to provide a variety of habitats for the local marine life. This reef was constructed using concrete boxes, concrete culverts, concrete rubble, fibreglass boat molds and concrete pyramids all sunk at a depth of just 30 feet.
The concrete pyramids are found 1000 meters to the south of the center of the reef and some beautiful tall structures are found at the north end of the reef providing both height and structure to this attractive reef.
This reef attracts many forms of marine life including pelagic species and this is a well known reef for its underwater photography and video opportunities with shallow clear waters and plenty of natural light.

Terence’s Log
When scuba diving any of the reefs around Tampa Bay care has to be taken as these reefs were designed and constructed for scuba diving and for Tampa Bay fishing which is very popular so you will see lots of fishing boats around these dive sites.
This is a fantastic reef for underwater videos as it is shallow with plenty of light especially if you are videoing the taller structures at shallower depths.
