West Palm Beach – Wreck Diving

The three steel hulled tugs were sunk as part of the artificial reef program in April 1998 and are now on the seabed at a depth of 70 feet.

The tugboats have been hit by the weather and the northern tug now has its wheelhouse collapsed although the rest of the tugs hull appears to be intact.

The Tug Boat Reef is a well populated site with lots of marine life and fish such as tomtate grunts, gray snappers, bluehead wrasse, snook, baraccuda and porkfish grunts to name just a few.

West Palm Beach Scuba Videos

One of the attractions of West Palm Beach scuba diving is that you will be able to take underwater photographs or underwater videos such as the one below. With excellent light and clear waters you will be able to get some excellent shots.

Although this video is not of the tugboat wrecks it was taken at Palm Beach and it gives you an idea of what to expect when diving the numerous wrecks around West Palm Beach such as the Amaryllis, Mizpah and PC1174. TerenceTerence’s Log

This is a relatively recent addition to the Palm Beach artificial reef program but it is already attracting all forms of marine life and growth.

Unfortunately I do not expect to see these tugs outlast many more storms as their shape and size lend themselves to being shifted about when new storms hit.

Like all the wrecks in this area you can expect some baraccuda to keep you company on your dive.
