Jupiter Wreck Trek
Jupiter Wreck Trek
West Palm Beach Dive Sites
The Jupiter Wreck Trek can be found one mile north of Jupiter Inlet and is a planned dive to take in the three shipwrecks that can be found close together.
Palm Beach – Reef Diving
When Palm Beach diving centers take you on the Jupiter Wreck Trek they will be taking you to see the Zion Train, Miss Jenny and Esso Bonaire III. This makes for a great dive as you spend some time at each of the wrecks.
The first shipwreck the Zion Train was a Dutch freighter which was eventually scuttled in June 2002 and now has only the aft section of what was once a 165 foot ship left.
Miss Jenny was a 55 foot dredge barge which has been battered by the storms over the years and now lies upside down providing a large area onto which soft corals and sponges can flourish.
The final shipwreck on the Jupiter Wreck Trek is the Esso Bonaire III a 147 foot tanker built in Honduras in 1926 and sunk in July 1989. This particular wreck is very popular with nurse sharks and barracuda.
Each of these wrecks has taken a pounding during recent storms but still present a great opportunity to see three wrecks on one dive.
West Palm Beach Scuba Videos
One of the attractions of West Palm Beach scuba diving is that you will be able to take underwater photographs or underwater videos such as the one below. With excellent light and clear waters you will be able to get some excellent shots.
This video was taken at Jupiter and shows what you can expect to see when diving in Palm Beach. You can see the abundant and rich marine life you find at most dive sites off the Florida coast. (Press the button second right on the bottom of the video player to see it in full screen)…
Terence’s Log
Although the wrecks have been storm damaged you will find that the wrecks are still interesting and provide shelter for various marine life.
Do not be surprised to see nurse sharks, barracuda or moray eels when you visit these wrecks.
