Maimi Dive Sites

The Tenneco Oil Platforms or as they are also known Tenneco Towers, were used in the Gulf of Mexico before being donated by the Tenneco Oil Company and used to provide another unusual dive site off the coast of Miami. (Photo courtesy of Tenneco Oil Co.)

Miami Artificial Reefs – Tenneco Oil Platforms

The five platforms were transported by barge to Hallandale probably the most northern most dive site that Miami dive centers travel to and sunk in what has now become 3 separate dive sites at depths of 90 – 190 feet. The main sites are known as West Tenneco and East Tenneco with the remainder at Deep Tenneco.

Having been underwater since 1995 the oil rigs have been covered with orange cup coral and other marine life. The design of the structures provides the ideal habitat for numerous schooling fish and with the depths of these structures they are also frequented by barracuda and sharks such as the bull shark.

Miami Scuba Videos

One of the attractions of Miami scuba diving is that you will be able to take underwater photographs or underwater videos such as the one below. With excellent light and clear waters you will be able to get some excellent shots.

This video was taken at Tenneco Oil Platforms showing you what you can expect to see in and around Miami including the marine life and the various colors of the corals and marine life growing on these wrecks. TerenceTerence’s Log

You may not get the opportunity to dive this site as it is the furthest north that many of the Miami dive centers would travel to but if you do get the opportunity you will find the structures well covered and schools of fish using the structures for shelter.

You will find this dive site is a popular area for spear fishing.
