Miss Karlene Or Patricia
Miss Karlene Or The Patricia
Maimi Dive Sites
The Miss Karlene and The Patricia where originally separate wreck sites at least 200 feet apart but over the years with the storms and hurricanes the two ships ended up colliding together and now represent one mangled wreck site.
Miami Wreck Sites – Miss Karlene & Patricia
Miss Karlene was a 85 foot steel tug which was used as a shrimper and was sunk back in 1989 at the artificial reef site known as Anchorage which is not far south of Haulover Inslet.
This reef site is in relatively shallow waters so Miss Karlene came to rest on the bottom at a depth of 50 feet.
In the following year and not too far away the second 65 foot long steel tug Patricia was sunk at a depth of 56 feet and both wrecks now form part of Miami’s Wrek Trek which is a trail or area of wrecks in relatively shallow waters allowing plenty of bottom time to explore more than one wreck.
The wrecks are easy to dive and if you plan your bottom time well you are also in the vicinity of other well known wrecks such as Army Tanks and the Matthew Lawrence Memorial (Number Seven) to name just two.
The whole of this area is in shallow waters with great light so it is possible to take some great underwater photos or underwater videos at these dive sites. Miss Karlene and the Patricia have been at this site for numerous years now and are full of marine life making these excellent dive sites to visit and explore.
Miami Scuba Videos
One of the attractions of Miami scuba diving is that you will be able to take underwater photographs or underwater videos such as the one below. With excellent light and clear waters you will be able to get some excellent shots.
This very brief video was taken at Patricia and it gives you an idea of what to see around this dive site and what to expect diving off the Florida coast. (Press the button second right on the bottom of the video player to see it in full screen)..
Terence’s Log
You will find that both of these tugs have been sunk for quite some time and despite the storms and hurricanes that have moved these tugs about they still make very good wrecks to dive especially as part of the Wreck Trek.
The shallow waters and light here give you ample opportunity to get the underwater cameras and underwater video cameras out.
