Matthew Lawrence
Matthew Lawrence Memorial
Maimi Dive Sites
The Matthew Lawrence or Number Seven as it was formally known was sunk in January 1996. The Number Seven was a 120 foot barge and was originally used as a salvage ship. It was later obtained by a local diving company and after cleaning and preparing the barge for sinking, finally took it out to its present position and had it sunk. Miami Artificial Reefs – Matthew Lawrence Memorial
When you dive this wreck you will see a plaque on the pilot house dedicated to Matthew Lawrence who was a well known and highly respected underwater video specialist who developed underwater housings.
Unfortunately he died in 1992 shortly before the Number Seven was acquired whilst diving the Andrea Doria and the Number Seven was dedicated in his memory.
Close to the famous Miami Wrek Trek you will find this wreck 150 feet from another well known and unusual artificial reef Army Tanks.
Number Seven sits in relatively shallow waters at 50 feet and offers plenty of opportunities for wreck penetration and is therefore an ideal wreck dive for novices looking to build up their experience. (Picture – RJ Diving Ventures)
Miami Scuba Videos
One of the attractions of Miami scuba diving is that you will be able to take underwater photographs or underwater videos such as the one below. With excellent light and clear waters you will be able to get some excellent shots.
This video was taken at nearby Army Tanks and it gives you an idea of what to see around this dive site and what to expect diving off the Florida coast. (Press the button second right on the bottom of the video player to see it in full screen)..
Terence’s Log
This dive site was within easy reach of Army Tanks and is an easy dive.
You will probably want to make this one of your destinations as you explore this area and you wil find this an easy wreck to explore even if you are a novice or beginner.
There is plenty of marine life on and around this wreck so there is plenty for you to see and do.
