Maimi Dive Sites
The C-One is located 2 miles northeast of Bakers Haulover Inlet in the Sunny Isles Artificial Reef Site. The 120 foot US Navy steel tug was sunk at this site in November 1990 and rests at an angle of approximately 45 degrees to starboard on the sea bed at a depth of 68 feet.
Miami Wrecks – C-One
Originally named Christina she was built in the 1940’s and was purchased by The Department of Environmental Resources before being stripped ready for sinking.
Although novices do dive this site it is really considered an intermediate dive depending on which Miami dive center you choose to dive with. The wreck is abundant with marine life and you can expect to find barracuda standing guard in the surrounding currents.
This dive site can also vary with visibility depending on the weather however it is well worth the dive as the marine life in and around this wreck makes everything worthwhile with parrotfish, schools of snapper, angelfish and lizard fish.
This shipwreck has opportunities of penetration and you may want to extend your dive to one of the nearby wrecks such as Conception which is a 150 foot Honduran freighter just 150 feet to the north.
Miami Scuba Videos
One of the attractions of Miami scuba diving is that you will be able to take underwater photographs or underwater videos such as the one below. With excellent light and clear waters you will be able to get some excellent shots.
This video was taken along a Miami wreck trail and it gives you an idea of what to expect with the numerous wrecks around Miami and what to expect diving off the Florida coast. (Press the button second right on the bottom of the video player to see it in full screen)…
Terence’s Log
You will find a lot of sand built up in and around this wreck after Hurricane Andrew which did a lot of damage to numerous wrecks throughout Miami.
The wreck itself is full of marine life so you shouldn’t be surprised to meet barracuda in the wheelhouse or a nurse shark in a sheltered part of the wreck.
