If you’re in Florida, try snorkeling Key West has some beautiful coral reef dive sites and one of the most popular dive sites is 9ft Stake. Named after the nine foot piling that was located here this is a truly colorful reef.
Located near to the Cayman Salvager this site is often used as a supplemental dive. Key West diving centers love this area as at only 15 to 30 feet it is a great shallow dive and with its crystal clear waters has fantastic visibility for snorkelers and divers alike.
Snorkeling Key West dive sites is an amazing experience and at 9ft Stake you will find large brain coral, surrounded by colorful fish such as hogfish, tangs and goatfish.
Other marine life you will discover whilst snorkeling or diving here are barracuda, rays, nurse sharks, lobsters and many more.
This is one dive you will want to ensure you have your underwater camera to photograph this amazing site with its vast variety of marine life.
For a change of scenery you may want to try a night dive here when you will have the opportunity to see the reef come to life in a different way. Night loving marine life such as anemones and hermit crabs thrive at this site and the clear shallow waters provide the ideal environment to enjoy watching various nocturnal marine life close up.

Between dives I always enjoy snorkeling Key West has some excellent dive and snorkeling sites and 9ft Stake is certainly one of them. We dived the Cayman Salvager earlier in the day and used this dive site as the last dive of the day.
Don’t forget your camera! If you have the skills you will not want to miss the photo opportunities this site delivers.
The reef is alive with color and we photographed a large moray eel and a very large Green Sea Turtle
