Permit Ledge: Planning to go scuba diving, Key Largo, Florida? Then look no further…
If you go scuba diving, Key Largo, Florida you will find a very popular snorkeling site located on the southern end of Molasses Reef called Permit Ledge.
The dive site gets its name from the large schools of Permit Jacks that frequent the area and are seen swimming within the vicinity of the small ledge populated with corals and sponges.
When you go scuba diving, Key Largo, Florida, if you dive or snorkel this site you may have the opportunity to see some spotted eagle rays and groupers amongst the inhabitants.
The shallow areas of Molasses Reef are adorned with Elkhorn and Boulder Corals, whilst the depths are adorned with Star Coral and large Brain Coral. There is also a selection of soft corals, sea fans and some beautiful sponges.
The marine life is friendly and spectacular. When you go scuba diving, Key Largo, Florida and dive this reef you will find from the moment you leave the boat you will be surrounded with fish and with plenty of mini caves, nooks, crannies and ledges; lobsters, crabs and other crustaceans also thrive in the area.
The fish are amazing with rays, angelfish, parrot fish, moray eels, grouper snapper, yellowtail, turtles, sharks, need I go on….

Not a particularly spectacular dive site. Excellent visibility on this dive and I was thrilled with the friendly nurse shark that swam close enough to touch!
I also encountered a couple of moray eels although they were much less friendly than the shark!
