Cannabis CruiserCannabis Cruiser – ‘Pot Wreck’

Go to ‘Pot Wreck’ and take a scuba diving picture. Scuba divers travelling to Cannabis Wreck are surprised at what they find…

Islamorada Diving Cannabis Wreck

Planning to dive to ‘Pot Wreck’ and take a scuba diving picture, scuba diving at these depths requires a good eye for photo opportunities.

The Cannabis Cruiser known as ‘Pot Wreck’ is located 5 miles offshore from Islamorada, 3 miles west of Alligator Lighthouse.

The 75ft long trawler lies in 115ft of water. With an inviting name like that she is well ended.

Back in the 1970’s the trawler was deliberately sunk after its owners had been suspected of transporting drugs to the United States of America and were under surveillance by the Coast Guard. Trapped, the trawler was sunk in 115ft of water together with its cargo.

The trawler sits on the bottom, upright and with barely a mark on her and still mostly intact making an unusual scuba diving picture.

Scuba divers Buddy Brown and Bobby Guenther discovered the wreck in this condition together with packs of marijuana, which they handed in.

Groupers, angelfish and hogfish are known to frequent the area.

Islamorada is not one of the ‘hot spots’ for scuba diving in Florida but it is conveniently situated between Key Largo and Key West and so gives you the opportunity to explore ‘The Keys’.

Both Islamorada and Marathon are hot spots for game fishing and both have exciting and busy marinas so you will find that whatever you want to do, catch fish or just watch fish, there are plenty of choices and opportunities to enjoy yourself.

Islamorada Scuba Videos

One of the attractions of Florida Keys scuba diving is that you will be able to take underwater photographs or underwater videos such as the one below. With excellent light and clear waters you will be able to get some excellent shots.

This video was taken at Islamorada and around the Florida Keys and you can see there is plenty of marine life to see and discover (Press the button second right on the bottom of the video player to see it in full screen)…

An unusual dive for taking a scuba diving picture. Scuba around ‘Pot Wreck’ and I was amazed how the trawler remains mostly intact with mainly the larger fish for company.

I was hoping to get a photo of some sharks that cruised by but I couldn’t get them to stay still long enough for a candid photo!
