Adolphus Busch Wreck

No scuba diving Florida Keys vacations would be complete without a wreck dive and one wreck dive not to miss is the Adolphus Busch.

If you are in The Keys scuba diving Key West dive centers will take you to the Adolphus Busch located six miles southwest of Big Pine Key.

In December 1999 the 210ft Adolphus Busch was deliberately sunk in 100ft of water to help create an artificial reef system and provide some relief to nearby Looe Key which is a very popular dive site and snorkel area.

Having had numerous large holes put in her sides and water pumped into her she eventually sunk and now lies intact and upright on the sandy bottom.

The holes created to sink her now provide excellent doorways for further exploration of the vessel.

Scuba diving Florida Keys vacations wouldn't be complete for the advanced diver without a visit to this wreck where large goliath grouper jewfish maintain a vigil upon the wreck.

Visibility is generally very good and the marine life large!

Terence's Log

It was a calm day when we dived this wreck and amazingly you could see the wreck the moment we broke the surface.

The jewfish were amazing with one in particular huge!

Plenty of entrances throughout the wreck to penetrate and explore.

One of the attractions of Florida Key scuba diving is that you will be able to take underwater photographs or underwater videos such as the one below. With excellent light and clear waters you will be able to get some excellent shots.

This video was taken at USCG Duane and it shows you these wrecks have developed into artificial reefs, and you get an idea of what to expect diving off the Florida coast (Press the button second right on the bottom of the video player to see it in full screen)...
