Minnow Cave

Located at North Dry Docks 5 miles south east of Key Largo, Minnow Cave is one of the most popular coral caves, dive sites in Key Largo.

This coral formed cave is named after the thousands of tiny silver glass minnows which frequent the site in great numbers each year.

If you stop in the cave the minnows will surround you and the site and feeling is awesome!

The cave can be difficult to find as it is a hollowed out tunnel in the reef but once inside it is simply stunning.

The many crevices and passageways in the area created by the limestone ledges are inhabited by barracuda, lobsters, crustaceans and larger fish such as groupers.

The crystal clear shallow waters also make this Florida Key scuba diving site a good place for snorkelers.

Terence’s Log

The cave is stunning and a must see if you are Florida Key scuba diving.

Although popular it was still a quiet place to dive compared to some of the other nearby sites and once we had thoroughly explored the cave I spent the rest of my time watching spiny lobsters moving through the various crevices.

Before leaving we spotted some sharks in the distance and were disappointed they didn’t come closer.

This was a fun dive.
