Terence's Log

When scuba diving in Islamorada, one of the reefs I love to visit is Crocker Reef. This reef is different every time I dive it probably because of its huge size.

The valleys and coral formations are dazzling but beware! One of my friends was stung by some Fire Coral here and it was very uncomfortable for some 20 minutes after leaving the water.

Not a pleasant experience so be careful!

Crocker Reef

If you are going diving in Islamorada then Crocker Reef located 4 miles from Windley Key is an excellent dive site to head for.

Its sandy valleys, small walls and coral formations made up of Staghorn Coral, Star Coral, Finger Coral, Barrel Sponges and gorgonians.

This is an extremely large reef and you can dive anywhere you find a sandy valley to anchor. As you drift southwards on this reef you reach a small wall known as Crocker Wall.

Crocker Reef reaches depths of 110 feet in places and has some amazing formations of coral which are stunning to look at.

Marine life is abundant and varied on this reef with Nurse Sharks, rays and Green Sea Turtles a common sight in the crystal clear depths.

One of the attractions of Florida Keys scuba diving is that you will be able to take underwater photographs or underwater videos such as the one below. With excellent light and clear waters you will be able to get some excellent shots.

This video was taken at Davey Crocker Reef, Islamorada and you can see there is plenty of marine life to see and discover (Press the button second right on the bottom of the video player to see it in full screen)...
