Spanish Anchor

Don't discount scuba diving at this simple dive site located at Molasses Reef. This is a dive site with an interesting 10ft anchor known as the Spanish Anchor.

Its true origin has yet to be confirmed but the traditional shape and materials suggest it’s of Spanish origin and is believed to be 17th – 18th century.

It has been surmised that the anchor was used to pull a boat off the reef and now lies at the bottom encrusted in coral.

There are plenty of fish to see at this dive site such as parrot fish, tanks, sergeant majors, angelfish and barracuda.

If you can get a discount scuba diving the shallow areas of Molasses Reef is a must dive.

The reef is adorned with elkhorn and boulder corals, whilst the depths are adorned with star coral and large brain coral. There is also a selection of soft corals, sea fans and some beautiful sponges.

The marine life is friendly and spectacular. From the moment you leave the boat you will be surrounded with fish and with plenty of mini caves, nooks, crannies and ledges; lobsters, crabs and other crustaceans also thrive in the area. The fish are amazing with rays, angelfish, parrot fish, moray eels, grouper snapper, yellowtail, turtles, sharks, need I go on…

Terence's Log

The main excitement about diving at this site is that it is part of the Molasses Reef.

Without doubt one of the best areas to dive with a stunning collection of fish and corals.

Whilst the anchor itself was interesting, the reef was amazing and I never tire of this area.

A photographer's paradise!
